Structured Curriculum Aimed at Official Koto Certification
Our program follows the traditional Ikuta-ryu teaching method, allowing even complete beginners to progress step-by-step toward certification.

First Half (1 – 6 Months)
Learn the basics: posture, finger technique, notation reading, and core repertoire. The goal is to obtain the Shoden (Introductory Certificate). -
Second Half (7 – 12 Months)
Advance to more complex pieces and expressive techniques. Students aim for the Chuden (Intermediate Certificate), with the possibility of achieving Okuden (Advanced Certificate) for fast learners. -
Japanese Language Lessons (Twice Weekly)
Focused on pronunciation, conversational skills, and music-related vocabulary. -
Performance & Recording Opportunities
Optional recitals and professional recordings are held regularly to showcase progress.

Do I need any prior musical experience?
No, not at all! Beginners are very welcome. You’ll be guided step-by-step, even if you have no musical background.
Is it okay if I don’t speak Japanese?
Yes, that’s fine. Lessons are conducted in English, and Japanese language support is provided at a beginner level.
Do I need to apply for the Cultural Activities Visa myself?
You will submit the visa application yourself, but we will provide all required documents as the official host institution and guide you through the entire process.
How do I find a place to stay in Japan?
We help you find housing, such as furnished apartments, suited to your needs and preferences.
Can I work part-time while in the program?
Yes. Our school regularly organizes koto workshops for foreign tourists, and we can introduce eligible students to part-time opportunities assisting with these events.
Important Note:
This is only possible if the student obtains Permission to Engage in Activity Other Than That Permitted by the Status of Residence (資格外活動許可) from immigration authorities.
Working hours are capped at 28 hours per week (as per visa regulations).
