Learn how to pluck the koto strings!
To produce a clean sound on the koto, proper plucking technique is the key!
- Start by placing your thumb gently above one string (Start from string number 7).
- Rest the other fingers 2 or 3 strings below the thumb.
- Use the tsume to pluck. Begin with your thumb pushing away to the string below.
- Keep your hand relaxed, and use the flat surface of the nail for a fuller tone.
- After plucking, let your finger naturally stop or rest on the next string to control the sound.
With practice, each pluck will sound bright, clear and controlled-just like traditional koto music should.
